Lute Player
The lute belonged to my father. He played it now and then, but eventually it fell into disrepair. My mother had it restored not long after his death. I have it hanging now in my studio.

It's a beautiful painting, but that's a mandolin.
ReplyDeleteIt's the old Italian style with a gourd-shaped body.
I have one like it sitting around as a decoration and play the modern F-hole mandolin. Too bad mandolin orchestras are no longer in vogue. Research how popular they were at the turn of the 20th century in America and especially Italy. There were all-female mandolin orchestras in Italy. Take care.
