The Light at South Manitou

The lighthouse on South Manitou Island was built in 1871. Only its light is still operative. The island itself is now uninhabited. The original painting and fine art prints are available here.

First Two Studies

These were my first two studies while artist-in-residence at the Glen Arbor Art Association on Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula. The first day it rained heavily, so I opened the barn doors of my studio and painted the granary and surrounding buildings on Thoreson Farm. On the second day the weather still looked threatening, but I did venture out to paint the studio barn itself. Both the originals as well as fine art prints are available here.

Plein Air Studies from the Leelanau Peninsula

Artist-In-Residence

In am currently artist-in-residence at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Glen Arbor, MI. The landscape here is astounding, and I am painting plein air every day. The National Park Service offers artist residencies throughout the country. You can read more about it here.

Negwegon Sunset

Negwegon State Park is on Lake Huron, just south of Alpena, MI. It is undeveloped and remote. Although Lake Huron is Michigan's sunrise coast, you can often catch spectacular sunsets.

Tawas Bay

Tawas Bay State Park is a pristine sandy hook which arcs into Michigan's Lake Huron. Its shallow waters are ideal for swimming, and it is a bird watcher's paradise where one can often see the endangered piping plover. The Tawas Point Light is open to visitors.

From Point Lookout, Au Gres

This is one of a series of lakescapes in which I explore the vast expanse of sky and water that characterize Michigan's Great Lakes. My family has vacationed on Point Lookout for many years. This is the view looking north toward White Stone Point.
